Living Free Ministry Organization History

Living Free was founded with the name Turning Point Ministries in 1988 by Dr. Jimmy Ray Lee in response to an invitation by a church in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to help some members struggling with personal problems. Turning Point began with 38 participants and has grown to nearly one million participants.
Dr. Lee has years of experience helping struggling people overcome problems. He is the founder of two Teen Challenge Centers and Project 714, a national school-based prevention and intervention program for students in the USA.

Mission

Turning Point Ministries is a non-profit Christian ministry that provides churches and ministries with small group training and discipleship curriculums that focus on helping people prevent and overcome life-controlling issues. The materials are biblically-based, Christ-centered, and designed to benefit all church members–challenging them to examine their own lives and equipping them to reach their communities by addressing the heart-felt needs of people.

Who Produces Living Free?

Living Free is a non-profit Christian organization that equips churches and other Christian organizations to provide practical and biblical help to people struggling with life-controlling problems.
Turning Point Ministries is the official name of the ministry; however, we are more commonly known as Living Free since we introduced small group ministry training videos by that same name in 2000. We prefer the Living Free name, but because some of our materials still use the name Turning Point, we continue to use both names.

Our offices are located in Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA. Founded in 1988 Living Free is now represented in more than 50 countries and nearly one million people around the world have participated in Living Free small groups.The curriculum has been or is in the process of being translated into 17 foreign languages.

Our Beliefs
  • We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.
  • We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
  • We believe in the deity of Christ, in the virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
  • We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful men regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.
  • We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
  • We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
  • We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
